Equipment Reliability Institute (ERI) is a specialized engineering school, focusing on the reliability and durability of hardware, upon the kinds of stresses that can shorten the life of hardware such as yours and upon appropriate tests to uncover weaknesses.
One group of those stresses can be called climatics. It includes natural environments such as thermal, altitude (low pressure), pressure (immersion), humidity, sand-and-dust, salt fog, corrosion, etc.
The other group can be called dynamics. It includes man-made environments, such as EMI (electromagnetic interference, also called EMC or electromagnetic compatibility and RFI or radio frequency interference), vibration, mechanical shock and noise. The latter are Wayne Tustin's fields.
Wayne founded ERI in 1995 after deciding to "unretire". Wayne's first school (now called TTI) was created in 1962 and sold in 1990. ERI's assets include Wayne’s nearly fifty years in vibration (see the text "Vibration Pioneers") and an estimated 10,000 past students, some of whom are now test and design managers who want him to teach their new people.
How do we deliver training?
- ERI brings training to designers (who are striving to increase ruggedness) and/or test personnel (who verify that ruggedness) at their facilities. We "tailor" that training to the host firm's needs. A few courses are listed at http://www.equipment-reliability.com/onsite_courses.html, but you can also download a PDF version with a complete list of our courses.
- Customer firms send individuals to an ERI "open" course. Examples include vibration and shock test training or reliability of COTS electronic equipment. Locations and dates are listed at http://www.equipment-reliability.com/open_courses.html.
- Distance Learning (computer assisted training). We offer vibration and shock measurement, analysis, calibration and testing via CD-ROM and e-mail. Please visit http://www.equipment-reliability.com/distance_learning.html for detailed information.
- Our instructors (see "Specialists" at the "Consulting" section of our website) are sometimes available on a consulting basis.
Please visit our website and fill out the form to receive ERI NEWS, our quarterly Reliability Newsletter. Back issues of ERI NEWS are listed at http://www.equipment-reliability.com/nl_archives.html.
Wayne's vibration and shock text is shown at http://www.equipment-reliability.com/vibration_book.html. Down that page is a free offer of a pdf version of Chapter 1, an overview of the text.
Wayne can be contacted at (805) 564-1260 or tustin-at-equipmentreliability.com.
