As speakers at SMTA International, individuals make contributions to the industry by sharing their research and findings. To reward exceptional achievement, $1,000 awards and plaques are given for the Best of Conference Presentation, Best of Proceedings Paper, Best International Paper, as well as a $500 award for Best Student Paper.
Hutchins Grant Award Winner Announced
Nov 22, 2016 | During the 2016 Annual Meeting at SMTA International, the SMTA announced that Kate Reeve, a graduate student at Purdue University, has been selected as the recipient of the 2016 Charles Hutchins Educational Grant. The SMTA Grant Committee selected her project entitled "Heterogeneous Nucleation of ß-Tin in Lead-Free, Tin-Based Solder Alloys."
SMTA Capital Chapter Final Meeting of 2016 a Great Success at Zentech
Nov 22, 2016 | The SMTA Capital Chapter is pleased to announce its final meeting of 2016 was a great success. Zentech graciously hosted the chapter meeting. The meeting had over 30 attendees representing various companies in the electronics industry including Northrop Grumman, L-3 Communications, Harris, DRS Technologies, BrainScope, and many others. Attendees enjoyed a fully catered dinner from La Prima. Mr. John Travis of Nordson YESTECH gave an excellent presentation on “AXI and MXI; How They Complement Each Other”. After the presentation, attendees participated in a facility tour and Mr. Travis gave a full demonstration of the Nordson YESTECH X3 AXI (Automated X-Ray Inspection) system.

The tutorial was a great success with over 25 attendees. New chapter members were welcomed at the event. The tutorial concluded with a tour of Zentech Manufacturing for the attendees.

This tutorial is designed for those involved in printed board design, bare board fabrication, SMT assembly, quality control, materials purchasing, and reliability testing. In honor of the nearly 30 years of service dedicated by former Executive Administrator, JoAnn Stromberg, a $3000 Student Leader Scholarship was established following her retirement in 2015. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage undergraduate students to take on more leadership opportunities and strengthen the connection between students and the electronics industry.

Co-sponsored by the SMTA and CIRCUITS ASSEMBLY magazine, the Hutchins Grant was established in memory of past SMTA president, educator, mentor, and industry colleague, Dr. Charles Hutchins. The SMTA has awarded $85,000 to Hutchins Grant recipients since 1998!

SMTA Announces New Executive Administrator

Current Executive Administrator, JoAnn Stromberg, retires on December 31, 2015 after 29 years with the Association. JoAnn has worked closely with Tanya over the past 18 months to ensure that she is informed and knowledgeable on all SMTA programs and activities for a smooth transition.

Nov 25, 2015 | On behalf of the SMTA International Technical Committee, we invite you to submit a 300 word abstract of your research for the 2016 SMTA International 2016 technical conference in Rosemont, Illinois. Papers should describe significant results from experiments, emphasize new techniques, and contain technical, economic or appropriate test data. We are looking for papers on a variety of topics related to electronics manufacturing including advanced packaging/components, assembly, business/supply chain, emerging technologies, harsh environment applications, PCB technology, and process control. Materials must be original, unpublished and non-commercial in nature.
