Oct 03, 2019 SMTA announced Pete Lomas, FREng, Co-Founder and Hardware Designer of Raspberry Pi, will keynote the Advanced Electronics Assembly Conference on November 19, 2019 in Budapest, Hungary, and November 21, 2019 in Oradea, Romania.
Mr. Lomas will present “From Cardboard to Space - The Raspberry Pi Story” in which he will share his somewhat unusual early career in engineering through to how the Raspberry Pi was conceived and designed. Pete will also discuss the challenges involved in deploying two special Raspberry Pi computers to the International Space Station providing educational outreach that is literally “out of this world.”
Pete Lomas holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in computer science from the University of Manchester. He has worked in electronics for over 30 years. In 2008 he joined a group of like-minded individuals based in Cambridge to establish the Raspberry Pi Foundation. The foundation puts creativity, experimentation and fun into the teaching of digital making, primarily through the use of the low-cost Raspberry Pi Linux computer. Pete was responsible for the design and manufacturing support for the first three million devices including the transfer of operations back to the UK at Sony Pencoed. Within Raspberry Pi, Pete has now taken up a role as a foundation trustee.
In 2017 Pete was a co-recipient the prestigious MacRobert Award and became a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2018. Today, in addition to his other roles, he is president of the Institute of Engineering Designers promoting excellence in design across the spectrum of engineering disciplines.
