The Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA, Minneapolis, MN) recently announced its Mission to China, which is limited to 20 SMTA members and will provide participants immediate access to a network of government and industry contacts in China. Scheduled for April 7-8, 2003, this two-day trip will feature Shanghai and Suzhou (a one-hour driving distance apart), the gravity center of one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
During the mission, participants will meet with government officials from the Ministry of Information Industry, Shanghai Mayor's Office, Shanghai Pudong Industry Park and Suzhou Industry Park. The meeting is intended to be interactive; participants can present company information, investment and business intentions and ask related questions. Participants will also visit companies and meet with potential business partners of their choice in both Shanghai and Suzhou. SMTA will work beforehand with China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) to identify companies that would have an interest in building a business relationship with participants.
The goals of the mission are to provide the most effective means of entering the complex and increasingly important Chinese market, to help member companies understand how to do business in China after China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), and to help establish manufacturing capability business investment in China.
The mission is cosponsored in conjunction with the Electronics and Information Industry Sub-Council of the CCPIT (CCPIT-ECC), which was established in 1988 to meet the expanding demand of the socialist market economy. According to a press release, CCPIT-ECC is dedicated to promoting foreign trade, technical exchange and mutual understanding. It links governmental organizations, enterprises, and China and other countries in the area of electronics and the information industry.
The cost of the trip is $1,500, which includes three nights of hotel accommodations at the Shanghai Everbright Convention and Exhibition Center International Hotel, all meals on April 7 and 8 and an SMTA-sponsored welcome dinner on April 6th, and all business meetings and facility tours.
