May 23, 2013 Webinars Scheduled for June 11 & 26
The Counterfeit Components Assessment Project of the International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (iNEMI) will hold two open webinars to help the electronics manufacturing supply chain better manage their risk of counterfeit components.
Each webinar will review the methodologies developed by the project team to help suppliers, equipment providers and end users quantify the risk of counterfeit components for their products or parts. The group has developed three unique and easy-to-use risk assessment methodologies that provide a comprehensive view of the counterfeit problem by surveying the possible points of entry in the supply chain and assessing the impact of counterfeit components on the industry at various points of use. These tools cover three areas: the risk of counterfeit use, risk of untrusted supply sources, and counterfeit loss and total cost estimations.
Counterfeit components have become a multi-million dollar problem, driven by such things as product obsolescence, long life cycles, economic downturn and recovery, as well as local disruptions in manufacturing due to natural disasters. Counterfeit electronic components affect every segment of the market and lead to increased scrap rates, early field failures, and increased rework rates. The use of counterfeits in high-reliability applications can have far more serious consequences.
"It is imperative that suppliers and users be able to quantify and mitigate the risk of counterfeit use for their products and take necessary actions to address weaknesses in their supply chains," said Bill Bader, CEO of iNEMI. "iNEMI's Counterfeit Components team has been addressing this issue and has come up with these tools they are sharing with the supply chain to help alleviate a portion of the risk."
The first webinar targets the U.S. and Europe and is scheduled for June 11 at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) 4:00 p.m. British Summer Time (London)/3:00 p.m. GMT. The second webinar targets an audience in Asia and is scheduled for June 26 at 9:00 a.m. China Standard Time (June 25, 9:00 p.m. EDT).

The International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative's mission is to forecast and accelerate improvements in the electronics manufacturing industry for a sustainable future.
