When the 20th productronica opens its gates in Munich in a few days, it will feature a multifaceted supporting program. The CEO Roundtable will allow leading executives from the commercial and scientific sectors to discuss the topic "Industry 4.0 - Opportunities and Challenges for a Competitive Production of Tomorrow". Among other things, the event will focus on the international exchange of ideas and information within the electronics production sector. The productronica Forum and the Innovations Forum Lectures will feature discussions on all highlight topics and exhibition sectors. Special shows on Automotive Electronics and Coilware Production, the Cleanroom Event Stage and the Cleaning and Contamination Testing Center will give participants insights into the industry's latest hot topics. Thanks to Student Day, upcoming professionals will also have their own forum. The International Trade Fair for Innovative Electronics Production takes place at the Messe München trade-fair center from November 12 - 15.
CEO Roundtable
"Industry 4.0 - Opportunities and Challenges for a Competitive Production of Tomorrow" is the topic of this year's CEO Roundtable, which is being held in the productronica Forum in Hall A1 on November 12 (11:00 – 12:15). Once again, it will bring together leading executives in the electronics manufacturing sector. The prominent company representatives that are participating include Kurt Sievers, Managing Director of NXP Semiconductors Germany, Prof. Wolfgang Wahlster, Managing Director and Scientific Director of the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), Stephan Häfele, Director of Sales at Valor (a division of Mentor Graphics), Gerd Hoppe, Member of the Executive Committee of Beckhoff Automation, and Volker Pape, CEO of Viscom AG.
Special show: Automotive Electronics
The special show on Automotive Electronics in Hall B2 will use a Liebherr excavator to demonstrate the special demands that automotive manufacturers place on electronics manufacturing. Besides current challenges facing electronics in automobiles and large mobile machinery, above all it will present the solution approaches of machine manufacturers in keeping with the motto "new technologies and extreme environments". Products, test systems, special-purpose machines and a number of software solutions including "Industry 4.0" will be on display in four sectors, the themes of which are "Reliability", "Power Electronics", "Sensor Technology" and "Interiors and LEDs". Participating companies are ASM Assembly Systems, DEK, F&K Devoltec, ifm datalink, kurtz ersa, PolyIC, Trumpf and Viscom. The special show is being organized by VDMA (German Engineering Federation) Productronics and Fraunhofer IZM. The VDMA special show titled "Blue Competence", which is also in Hall B2, deals with the sustainability aspects of electronics production.
Special show: Coilware Production
New standards in the areas of energy efficiency and sustainability must also be set in the production and use of coilware, a key element in the electronics industry. Depending on the application, the use of less material or reduced waste, high fill factors and high energy efficiency are critical factors of success. Together with the Electrical Winding & Insulation Systems (EWIS) Division of the ZVEI (German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers Association), Messe München is organizing a special show on this topic in Hall B3. It will depict the entire value chain in coilware production – from the refinery to materials, distributors, machines and final applications. Companies participating in the special show include ABM Greiffenberger, Aumann, BMW, Euro Group, FUR, SH Elektrodraht, Synflex and Wevo.
Forums and live demonstrations
The productronica Forum in Hall A1 and the Innovations Forum in Hall B2 are a platform for the professional exchange of information on all four days of the fair. Besides this year's highlight topics - i.e. "Cable manufacturing and connectors", "Coilware production", "Efficient production management and Industry 4.0" and “Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS)” - there will also be panel discussions and series of lectures on sector-specific market and technology topics. In addition, the so-called Speakers Corner in Hall B1 – which is part of the PCB & EMS Marketplace - will shed light on the entire PCB and EMS industry. Handson sessions and workshops will allow visitors to gather information about various processes and technologies based on concrete examples directly at the exhibitors' stands.
IPC Hand Soldering Competition
Who is the best of the best hand soldering specialists in Europe? For the first time ever, a hand soldering competition organized by Messe München, IPC Europa and IPC USA is being held at productronica. Hand soldering high-density circuit boards demands highly skilled operators to ensure zero-defect soldering results. The contest recognizes the best skills for hand soldering complex PCB assemblies. Over three days, participants will compete against one another to build a functional electronics assembly within the 45-minute time limit. Cash awards will be given to the winners and two runner-ups. The Gold winner gets 500 euro, the Silver winner 300 euro and the Bronze winner 100 euro. The Hand Soldering Competition takes place at Stand 318 in Hall A3.
Cleanroom Event Stage
Manufacturing under cleanroom conditions is indispensible in electronics manufacturing: Reducing the concentration of particles in the air is a prerequisite for producing electronic components. Key factors include structural requirements such as airlocks and air filtration as well as protective clothing and its cleaning. The Cleanroom Event Stage in Hall B2 gives this sector its own platform. Interactive live sessions will give visitors multidimensional insights into the various segments.
Cleaning and Contamination Testing Center
For the first time ever, productronica will feature the Cleaning and Contamination Testing Center in Hall A2. In conjunction with Bob Willis and the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), the center will provide practical support in the implementation of solutions in the areas of cleaning, contamination monitoring and overcoming common reliability failures.
Awards
Once again, a number of award ceremonies are being held at this year's productronica. The winners of the GLOBAL Technology Awards will be announced at the productronica Forum on November 12. The Sustainable Development Awards will also be presented there on Tuesday. Then, Markt&Technik will present the BestEMS Readers' Award in the Speakers Corner on November 13.
Student Day and the Job Area
On the last day of the fair (Friday, November 15), semica, Messe München and their sponsors, the VDMA Productronic and the ZVEI, are organizing Student Day in the productronica Forum in Hall A1. Besides a panel discussion on the topic "What should I be? Job descriptions and opportunities in the industry," approximately 200 future engineers from throughout Germany can attend a networking lunch where they can exchange information directly with company representatives. In addition, the Job Area in Hall B2 will give them an overview of the job openings of productronica's exhibitors as well as a chance to contact potential employees at the fair. As part of the Job Area, semica is also offering personal career counseling to all interested parties.
